Going to Italy for my honeymoon. What's the best are of Rome to stay in? Here's what we're looking for:

- Walk or short bus/train to popular sights and attractions

- Multiple, great restaurants w/in walking distance

- Good nightlife

- Not too touristy (like to get the local feel)

- Not seedy (aka: want to feel safe walking at night)

Basically, we plan on sight-seeing during the day and then going out to dinner and then for drinks all night. Would like a place that provides a good night scene.

Thanks for the help!

  1. hello!i am francesca, an italian student!sorry for my english.

on via nazionale(national street) there is a turistic bus, like the bus that you have in your country!forthe hotels, i know a B&B no more expensive and very near at the colosseum!

  2. type in venere rome in your google search engine. You should get a hypertext listing at least 10 hotels in the center of Rome.

Venere.com will also give you accommodations on the outskirts of Rome. Considerably cheaper. Public transport is excellent.

Your concierge will be able to tell you about places that provide a good night scene. Many are located near the Via Veneto

  3. I use the venere site often for hotels - especially here in Italy. http://en.venere.com/hotels_rome/ You can narrow down the location in a city using the map, and then sort by price or rating. The reviews by past guests are useful.

In Rome, the Coloseo, Trevi, Pantheon, Navona, or Piazza di Spagna areas are all centrally located for the sites. Repubblica is still walking distance though and a little cheaper. For a good nightlife, the Trastevere or Campo dei Fiori (Piazza Navona area) are good.

  4. As someone else suggested, Trastevere is a good choice. I stayed at the Hotel San Francesco there. It is one block from stops for both BOTH of the major tram lines, walking distance to the Capitoline, Forum and Campo de Fiori (healthy long walk).

The Hotel is charming -- it is a converted Monastery. It is also just across the river from Testaccio-- which is the young club area.

PS You don't want to stay on the outskirts for you Honeymoon!
