Question:

Best area to live in Brisbane Central

Can anyone tell me anything about central Brisbane and good neighbourhoods to rent in? We are a 30 something couple with no children. We like to eat out, go to bars, and like cultural activities. Somewhere that is safe is obviously preferable. Potential area for work is South Bank - so somewhere that is easy to get to and from assuming that public transport system is good there. Would pay up to $600.00 per week for rent.

  1. New Farm, Southbank, Highgate Hill, Kangaroo Point, West End - has it's moments though some areas are, shall we say eccentric?

Spring Hill, Red Hill, Paddington, Milton, Auchenflower, Bardon....

A lot of the inner northern out to Chermside (like Lutwyche or Kedron), on the Ferny Grove line (Newmarket), or Hamilton, Clayfield.

Much of inner south like Hawthorne, Bulimba, East Brisbane, Coorparoo, Camp Hill,  Carindale, Holland Park, Mt Gravatt...

    Indooroopilly, Kenmore and areas

Just depends - check out the real estate site

  2. You can live and play at Southbank i would suggest you don't live in West End it has some (not all) unsavoury people living there. If you are willing to pay that much in rent you'll have no problem finding something. You could also look at Kangaroo Point

  3. there are units in south bank look into that or west end/highgate hill(walking distance) newfarm/bowen hills/albian/hawthorn(bus/train/city-cat...

  4. There are some very nice apartments in your price range in Brisbane itself and also at South Bank, South Brisbane and West End. You'll probably be able to get something larger if you go further afield, but nothing else will be as handy or as well suited to your lifestyle.

  5. Norman Park, Morningside & Bulimba are all close to trains and ferry services and are very nice close to the city suburbs.

Fortitude Valley is where all the bars & clubs are. It is obviously quite loud but nearby New Farm is quieter and has some lovely restaurants. Tenerife is a nice suburb - on a hill next to New Farm and for $600 per week you will be able to get a very nice 2 bed apartment at least.

Apart from Brisbane CBD and its neighbour Spring Hill there is Kangaroo Point which has lovely apartment blocks but the quickest way to the city is on ferry only. Southbank is not a far walk from the ferry terminal though and you could walk from there or get on the city cat to the Southbank.

  6. I'd look around Coorparoo, Norman Park, Morningside, Bulimba...... some very nice areas, close to the trainline, only a few stops from South Bank.
