  1. Digital cameras are designed to use intermittent power, the duration that the battery works is greatly depending upon your energy management skills. You need to learn to save the battery power,

    For instance:

    1. Turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder

    2. Minimize photo previewing

    3. Do not use continuous focus when not necessary

    4. Do not press the shutter button half way down for no reason.

    5. Carry another battery

You can get orignal canon battery from from http://www.amazon.com. or get cheap OEM battery from some others, like

  2. I and several S5 users are using the Energizer rechargeables, specifically the 2500mAh capacity batteries.  I get 300-400 shots per set of batteries.  To increase the longevity of my batteries, I use a slow charger, not the 15 minute charger.  I used to use the fast charger and my batteries would quit holding a charge after a while.  One thing to get more life out of your batteries while they are in the camera is to use the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen.

  3. I like the rayovac NIMH Hybrid batteries. They may have a very slightly lower capacity compare to energizer ( 2500MAH for energizer against 2100 MAH for rayovac) but they cost less and I find that at the end, I get more for my money.

If you really want the best and don't care about the price, then PowerEx beats Energizer on Performance.
