Question:

Best bed for 18 month old?

Hi, my daughter is 18 months old at the mo, & we're looking at getting her a "big girls bed" for christmas. However, my partner & I can't seem to agree on which would be better. I quite like the mama & papa's sienna junior bed as its slightly bigger then most toddler ones, but he thinks a normal single bed would be best.

Can anyone advise us any further please?

How did you make the choice?

Thanks,

  1. After my girls where too big for their cot I put them straight into a normal bed. They had a choice of duvet cover and new pyjamas. I think its a waste of money buying a junior bed then a normal bed. Buy a normal bed and invest in it. Don't buy rubbish, potentially a normal bed can have 10 years of use in it which is more economical than a junior bed. I know you may want to keep your little girl a baby for longer but she isn't going to be. Shes nearly a toddler now. I have to say I agree with your partner on this one. Also buy a bed guard. Why not make her room Disney Princess? I did with my girls.

  2. Definitely a single bed! The M&P one is quite small, she'll outgrow it very quickly ( and it's not available until Feb! ) We bought our Daughter a bed for her 2nd birthday ( last Monday ) a single one with storage and she loves it, there's lots of room for her teddies and other bits on it.

We borrowed guard rails, ask on your local freecycle group, someone might have some they're not using. IKEA has reasonably priced beds.

  3. My daughter went into one of those junior beds purely because of the limited space in her bedroom, they are lower than normal beds so if they roll out of them they are less likely to get hurt.

That said, if I'd had the space I'd have happily put her into a full sized single bed.

  4. a normal size one would last an awful lot longer. you could jazz it up a bit by buying a pretty 'fairy' type bed canopy to turn it into a little girls dream.

  5. My two daughters are in junior beds ( ages 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 ) and i find them great. The only reason i went with this is because i bought them both cot beds when they where babies so thats what the cot changes into.  I think they are good because the are quite low and they have bed guards at each side. My older daughter is also great in a single bed. But i know my 18 month old wouldn't be. It would be a little high and she does fall out sometimes. Also when she slept in a single bed once and it had a proper bed guard on it she stood up holding the bed guard and i was scared she would fall over the top on to the floor.

  6. Go with a regular twin bed and get a bed rail.

  7. I would get a normal size bed. Push one side to the wall and either buy a rail that tucks in between the mattress's that your daughter won't fall out. Or instead of the rail, just line that side with pillows so it wouldn't hurt when/if she falls. Also, I would let her pick out her bedding and make a BIG deal about the big girl bed.

When we moved our daughter to her big girl bed she fell out that night and never woke up. Plus she has never fallen out since. The same goes for our son, he has never fallen out of bed. Our 17 mo/o just isn't ready for her big girl bed just yet.

  8. We got a normal single bed for our son as we didn't think it was worth buying a junior bed that he wouldn't be in for very long. He had a guard rail along the side but did manage to fall out a couple of times (he was ok though!) so if money is not a problem then a junior bed is a good idea especially if you can sell it on or put it in a spare room to use for another child one day.

  9. when my son was about 18months we got him a normal single bed and just attached the padded/ netted side to the end he slept at jus incase he fell out, iv never seen the point in getting one of the todlers/ young kids beds, i just see it as a waste of money

  10. I recommend a normal bed would be best because you don't need to keep on changing the bed as she grow-up unless you prefer to. My 22 months old  boy sleep on a normal single bed and i don't see anyway of changing that once he grow up coz he will be getting used of sleeping with it. We put one side of the bed against the wall and put a bed rail on the other so he won't fall. Make sure she can climb up and down on the bed safe.
