  1. If you are just riding around town, go for the best and most comfortable saddle: Brooks. You will spend a pretty penny on these (not too much more than a sella italia of fizik though), and will have to take care of them (bc they are hand-made leather), but WOW you will never ride a better saddle. Google the brand, and you will see that they have had an international following for almost 100 years, and a reputation as the best saddle maker in the world. These are the seats that bicycle messengers use...

    Personally, on my fixed gear commuter I use a brooks b-17, but for my competition road bike I actually use a fizik carbon seat.


  2. you'll get as many answers on this as you will asking what's the best bike! but here goes.. it comes down to personal preference, and experience with different seats. more heavily padded seats actually cause more chaeffing. look for a seat that supports your sit bones when properly aligned for your pedalling position. also, consider a seat that is anotomically designed to prevent numbness in your groin. I have Specialized and Selle Italia seats on my bikes. both are very comfortable, and neither has hindered my performance off the bike..
