Can you give me a list of the best books for me to learn to play metal and rock on an electric guitar, as well as the basics?

I never played an electric guitar, however I have been playing acoustic for a couple weeks. Does that auctually help anything?

  1. www.guitarsessions.com - will give you samples of many books from mel bay.

www.guitarnoise.com - is a great site for beginning guitar instruction and focuses on electric guitar type stuff.  check out david hodges lessons especially.

for books, if you have a guitar teacher, use the book he / she recommends. that way, your teacher will be very familiar with it and be able to help you through it better. you may want to check your local library. my local library ( in a city of less than 20K) has 7 books on guitar, 2 of them being on electric.

acoustic guitar technique is basically the same as ekectric guitar, just your touch will be lighter on electric and you will probably play more barre and power chords. acoustic does help build strength and is easier to practice on if you live in an apartment or with other people.
