Someone told me to stick with tape rather than internal hard drive. confused.

  1. The person who told you that is correct. MiniDV tape uses DV (or HDV) format to write to the tape. It is a lot less compression than MPEG2 or AVCHD or VOB used by flash memory, hard drive or DVD based camcorders. Compression = lost/discarded data = reduced video quality.

    MiniDV tape uses the least amount of data compression which results in best available video quality.

    Take a look at the pro camcorders... They use miniDV tape.
