Question:

Best cardio work out for bjj?

I need to work on my cardio, particularly for sparring in bjj. I thought rowing on high resistance would be the best form of training as it emulates the sort of cardio stress you would undergo during sparring.

I'm guessing running or cycling won't be intense enough and don't utilise the upper body

  1. Circuit training with bodyweight floor exercises:  Changing workstations without rest and using your body lots of times and lots of different ways taxes your body in all ways. (Jump Rope, Push Ups, Bridges, Crunches, Walk on Hands, Squat, for 60 seconds each and as many reps as you can complete... repeat 5 times)

When it comes to your running, try splitting your cardio into aerobic and anaerobic days.  Run at a steady pace for 1/2 an hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and do hill sprints on Tuesday and Thursday.

  2. Ge here for excelent program creation and basiaclly probbaly everyhting you will need for S&C.

    http://rosstraining.com/  get all the manuals.

    Also here : http://superstrengthtraining.com/john_je...

    This book is a classic.

Other than that I would say sand bags, as shown in Ross's manuals and juts GPP. Running is  atool and it doesn't mattermthat you won't be running in BJJ. Do sprint intervals, immediately after sprint drop and do 20 pushups. I am sure this will make your life that much more misreable. Just get the books and devor them. Belive me, you won't be wasting your money. Ross's Books are first, and than John Jesse's, but you can choose.

  3. Best cardio improvement for BJJ is to BJJ.

Train more. And hard. Gauntlet style.
