Question:

Best cars for short people?

My daughter is 16 (almost 17) and we are looking into buying her a new car. She is very small, only around 4'11. As of now she practically is on top of the wheel just in order to see and reach the gas/breaks. Any good suggestions for cars we can look into?

  1. hondas and toyotas

  2. beetles lol. nice and cute. i know a girl that goes to my skool and she's like 5 nothing, she has a yellow beetle.

  3. I'm also 4'11 and I drive a Seat Arosa - the distant cousin of the Volkswagen Lupo.  Both cars are small and practical as well as having adjustable steering and a handle to pump up the seat height so I can see over the steering wheel and onto the bonnet.  It works for me!

  4. saturns or hondas

  5. Smart car

  6. The new Smart Car.  Very small and exceptional on gas mileage.

  7. Oriental designs, that have not been Americanized too much, because Orientals are typically shorter than Americans.

  8. the new honda cars. they are small but not too small.

  9. any small car would do... honda fit

  10. Keep in mind that it has nothing to do with the size of the car.

It has everything to do with vehicle ergonomics.

A properly ergonomic car interior will allow people of very different sizes to be comfortable.

I have to report that my New Beetle is like that. Both very large and very small passengers have exclaimed with pleasure at the interior of my car. The seat and steering wheel adjust very well to handle body types as different as my mom (5') and my dad (over 6')

Have your daughter try it on for size (have her adjust the seat in all 3 directions). The big bonus for you, because your daughter is a new driver and ... well.. your child  - is the very good safety aspects of the New Beetle. The whole structure being round makes it very resilient in crashes, there's at least 4 air bags, traction control, ABS, you name it.

I am also a member of a free online community for New Beetle owners, and have witnessed many people walking away from serious accidents BECAUSE they were in a New Beetle (their words, not mine).

If you like, come check out the site in the course of your research:

  11. get a car with an 8 way adjustable seat. my mom is 4'11" and she drives a Nissan pathfinder with no problem. I might add that it has adjustable pedals and telescoping steering wheel too.
