What are the best cities to raise a family? I mean a safe, comfortable and friendly environment for not too much money. So far I have these few cities:

Omaha, Nebraska

Atlanta, Georgia

Baltimore, Maryland

Boston, Massachusetts

Chicago, Ill.

Cincinnati, Ohio

Newark, New Jersey

Are these good places?

Are there any good websites about good cities raising a family or anything like that?

  1. I have been to Atlanta and have lived in Cincinnati.  I really do not think neither one of those are what you would be looking for.  Have you done a detailed profile on any of these cities?  Just type in the citys name and you can pick up  a detailed profile,  crime, schools, weather etc.  I have moved to several diferent states in the past five years, this has helped me.

  2. You only need to post it once.

A capital is not necessarily a big city.  And, generally speaking, cities are the opposite of what you are looking for in terms of crime rates and living expenses.

  3. Are all of these big cities?  Capitals.

I would think a major city would not be a good place.

I am curious in what kind of answers you're gonna get.

  4. the crack use is running wild tonight if someone is suggesting ANY of those cities as being safe.

I'll address Atlanta since I know it better than the others,,,

on the western side of Atlanta are a few decent small towns, Powder Springs and Marietta come to mind.  Quiet neighborhoods, decent schools, good shopping and dining.  Cost of living is too high for the job market and the primary job market is inside the beltway, that translates into a hellish commute.

The bulk of your large bore entertainment ( sports, aquarium, festivals ) is also inside the beltway as is the bulk of the panhandlers and other criminal elements.  Traffic is just plain ungodly during rush hours and nasty at all other times.  Racial tension is high in the city, not quite as bad outside the beltway.

I suspect this same summary can be given for any large city though.

Maybe lower your sights from cities to towns,,, I blieve you'll have much more success in your search.

  5. We too are looking to relocate.  I have been researching for hours a day for months.  We have narrowed it down to Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin or Eastern Idaho.  The schools are good jobs pay fair housing is not outrageous (Yet) & there is work.  I hope this helps.

  6. Well who ever told you Atlanta, Georgia they are out of there mind. That is probably in the worst top five places to live. Please don't raise your family in Atlanta, Georgia. ive have traveled to many places and the best one so far is chicago Illinois. It is a great and very nice place to live!!!!!! most definitely a great place to raise a family in. also very educational. The chicago zoo is great. I went there for vacation and it is so beautiful. at night it gets cool and not to cool you know the shorts but jacket type thing. also washington state is great !!! I'm not very sure about the cities but it is a great place to live I AM SURE OF THAT !!! i hope you enjoyed my advise and i hope you find a fantastic place to live and of course raise your family in .And please remember  DO NOT MOVE TO ATLANTA GEORGIA. it is not a very good place to live in at all. believe me.

            sincerely domie
