I will have either 1 or 2 days in Germany next month.

Which major city can you reccomend to a tourist?

Base your decisions on things to see and do in a short ammount of time, plus the overall atmosphere, frendlieness of the people etc.

  1. Without a doubt BERLIN or Dresden ...

Both fantastic cities, with brilliant atmospheres ...

  2. If you want to experience old world charm in the big city go to Heidelberg.  The castles along to Rhine River are breathtaking.

However, if you really want to delve into the old world go to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.  It is a town that has not changed much since since around the 1500's or 1600's.  The clock in the town square reenacts a scene from the town's history every hour.  The church is even built in the wall of the town.

Munich or Frankfurt would be good choices if you want to see modern German life.

The transportation in Germany is superb.  Travel either by train or car on the autobahn is both safe and swift.

Enjoy your visit!!  The German people are very friendly and accommodating.

  3. This is like "European Vacation" going to the Louvre and have 20 minutes to see 100000 pieces of art.

Berlin is the capital and there is allot to see. If not Berlin then Munich. You can get a good mix of Germany in Berlin, Munich allthough German is also the capital of Bavaria.

    Good luck and enjoy.

  4. Frankfurt...... it has both Modern and Old ,it is full of History.

  5. have to agree on this...Definitely Munich! If you only have a couple of days Munich has everything for you.

  6. Berlin.

  7. I am well travelled in Germany and have visited the 'big four' (Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne) as well as many other smaller towns and have to say, in my opinion, there is no better city than Berlin. It is a city of great diversity, culture and history. Discover a city so greatly involved in and influenced and changed by WWII and the Cold War - the division of a city caught between two ideologies - Western capitalist and Eastern socialist - and that is today once again one of Europe's great capitals. Berlin is a city rapidly evolving into an economic powerhouse. For the tourist it offers arguably Europe's best nightlife, a vast array of museums, parks and waterways/lakes. Berlin is also famed for its numerous festivals, theatres and cultural exhibitions.

  8. Hamburg its good

  9. kolin  germany

    i go there  each ,month

  10. Definitely Munich!  If you only have a couple of days Munich has everything for you.  There is plenty of history, museums, etc., plenty of shopping/restaurants/hotels, beautiful archictecture, and many people speak English.  I've been to Munich a few times and always look forward to going back.  In fact my husband just returned from there last night ... unfortunately this time I was unable to go with him.

  11. It has to be Berlin,

    full of history

  12. Heidelberg!  You will love it!  Castles, history, awesome germans who don't mind speaking English when your lost!

  13. DUESSELDORF  or MUNICH ...great cities..lots of stuff to do and to see

  14. Heidelberg  is a beautiful university city.Loads of historical interest.

  15. Nurnberg. The people are friendly, it is steeped in history, the churches, Hauptmarkt, the castle, downtown. I could very easily spend 2 days there. Shopping is fun-the Breite Gasse und Karolinen? Strassen as well as the City Point Mall. Hope this helps.

  16. Dusseldorf, and if you've got time venture away a little to the Bermuda Triangle in Bochum - loads of bars and restaurants that never close!

  17. Berlin is great you have a lot of places to see pretty cultural you would see monument, museums, WWII stuff, check point charlie (famous world wide). I recomment you to take  BUS 100 direction alexanderplatz (last stop) from there you can see the old communist site walking  great tour you'll see new and old stuff

Is a shame you can stay longer but with a full day of tour you will see a lot of stuff

  18. If you want to go to a major city-go to Munich!

You can see many things and the people are nice. Great food and very good beer-if you like that.

  19. Mainz. It's on the Rhine.Home of the Gutenburg Museum.Home of the Fasching festival. Try to go in time for Rosen Montag(Crazy Monday).

  20. Koln (Cologne) is a great city but it really depends on what you are looking for. Koln has a great public transport system, excellent river cruises a beautiful Cathedral, Sunday Markets, great restaurants, very good beer bars, excellent shopping. What more do you want?
