Question:

Best close-up digital camera?

I'm looking for a digital camera which will take crisp, impressive pictures of things close up, for example pieces of jewellery to sell etc.

All the cameras I have are high res but really suck, especially at close up shots.

Also I don't have that much money to spend - any recommendations?

Thanks!

  1. My camera has 5.1 mega pixel, but I use 3 most of the time because it gives great results, is faster, and takes less memory. Also, it only has a 3 x optical zoom and some digital zoom, but it seems to impress everyone with the quality of the pictures it takes ... like magic.

Many of the new cameras come with only an LCD display. Would suggest that you find one that has an optical view finder because the LCD is almost impossible to see in bright sun.

This could be the best slim line! Two of the ladies selling cameras at Best Buy and Walmart own this camera. Saw it for $249 at Walmart.

FUJIFILM - FinePix 10.0-Megapixel Digital also $249 at Walmart. The Walmart camera man owned this camera.

This seems like the most and best camera for the money.

Wide-angle shooting, a 12x optical zoom and picture stabilization mode combine in this camera for exceptional shooting performance, even at a distance. Plentiful scene modes, autofocus and automatic white balance controls make this camera a snap to operate. Life time Warranty (Parts & Labor)

Check Walmart and Best Buy for prices. The people at Best Buy can give you really great advise and good prices.

The first link below will provide lots of information on most of the old and new cameras available today.

The second link will help you learn to clean the camera and battery contacts on any camera you buy. Digital Cameras require lots of power. If the contacts are not really good it can cause lots of problems. This is really important.

  2. An inexpensive, but great little camera - Canon 590 IS.

    Image stabilization

    Face Recognition

    Movie mode

    Macro Mode

    Manual exposure controls.

It can be found at places like http://newegg.com/ for about $150. If you buy before Aug 20, you can get a free 4gb SD card.

And more importantly, if the close up mode isn't quite what you need, you can get an optional filter tube ($14-20) that attaches to the camera and allows the use of standard s***w mount filters. If you get a close up diopter kit (about $20), you can get even closer to your subject.

I might also recommend you take a look at the mini studio at http://handhelditems.com/

You can get a mini-studio to shoot your stuff:

  3. I use a nikon coolpix P5100.  It will focus in macro mode at 1".  It is a 12.1 megapixel camera and uses SD cards.  I have taken macro shots of wedding rings many times that have been enlarged to 12 x 12 album pages with stunning definition.  I use this camera almost exclusively for close up and macro shots.  It is considered a point and shoot, however it has many advanced controls available to the photographer.  It is not a beginners point and shoot, nor is it particulariily easy to use, but it has very good image quality.  They cost around $300.

  4. depends what you are prepared to pay

    I've got a Fuji F50d. focusses down to 7cm (3")

    cost about £100

you may be able to pick up a second hand one on E-Bay or from the Fuji on-line shop
