Best compact digital camera?

My budget is probably around $400 and I need at least 8 megapixels.

Panasonic Lumix cameras are good. Leica helps Panasonic make them and have even released some on its own (so you can get the same model either in Panasonic, or in Leica). The Dmc-Tz5 and the Dmc-Lx2 are great.

Never had a problem with a Sony and you can get one for about $200 if you look around
