Best compact personal protection hand gun?

Question

What would be the best small handgun for personal protection that can be carried in the back pocket that weigh about 1 pound?

Size of a wallet.

Would like to have a laser with it that will come on automatically once the finger is placed into the trigger.

How much will it cost?

I have a  SW 38 special 5-shot model 40. It has a 2" brrl, & is hammerless.  It has a "squeeze" safety, which makes it difficult to fire accidentally.  It is very concealable,  I have a carry permit, & usually carry it in a jacket pocket. If accosted, I could squeeze it off without taking my hand from my pocket..It would just leave a "burn" hole.  A dealer told me my "40" was worth $450, because of its age & condition. A  newer model would cost less..

i would say check a SigP232 (.380 semi-auto)....i personally carry a Glock 27 (.40 SW)....also look into Khar 9mm or .380 ...these guns will cost more than some of the Kel-tec or taurus...type manuf.  but these are guns other Police Officers use for thier off-duty/ backup weapons...
