I'm going on a cruise that stops at Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Ocho Rios, Labadee. Trying to figure out what excursions to take part in. Please list what excursion you did and rate it 1 through 5, 5 being an awesome experience and 1 the worst. Thanks for all the help!

  1. As mentioned previously, the must do in Ocho is Dunns River Falls.  Skip the sting rays in Georgetown and head for h**l and the turtle farm.  Send a postcard marked from h**l so you can prove to all your good buddies that you've already been to h**l.  The turtle farm is really educational and both are located in the same general area.  One tip on Georgetown, don't buy the turtle products--turtles are an endangered species and they will be confiscated at customs.

  2. Go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call", then your ports.  You'll find lots of ideas and opinions about activities at these ports.

I've been to all of these ports, except Labadee [but that's a private island and it's in Haiti, so you won't be going anywhere but the beach there].

In Ocho, everyone says the "must do" is Dunns River Falls, and it IS nice.  We once did the tubing on the White River and that was a blast.  However, with the problems in Jamaica, I'm not sure I'd do it again.  BE SURE you do a ship excursion in OR, unless you are very assertive and "street smart".  One thing that is easy to do, but is not at all authentic Jamaica, is walk over to Island Village [literally a 5-minute walk, but you'll still be harassed by the locals], where there are little shops and a Margaritaville with a beach and some "toys", pool, hot tub, etc.

Grand Cayman's "must" is swimming with the stringrays.  It is a lot of fun and very easy to do on your own.  Two outfits we've gone with are Captain Marvin and Nativeway - both were good, but we liked the second one better, partly because it also went to Rum Point.  However, we barely made it back in time to catch the last tender back to the ship.  [If you go on your own, the ship won't wait for you if you're late.]  If you want to snorkel, there's a good place, again, a 5-minute walk, to the right [as you face the town] called Eden Roc.  If want to relax on a beach, get a cab or bus to Seven Mile Beach.

In Coz, the main attractions are the beaches and the shopping.  I don't really like to shop that much while on a cruise, but it's fun to explore the shops for a couple of hours, especially if you go down some of the side streets away from the "main drag".  Two popular places in Coz that we've been are Paradise Beach and Chankanaab Park.  Both are nice, but we liked the park better.  [They both have websites and there are tons of posts about them both at CC.]  Some people also like Nachi Cocom.  It's very easy to get a cab at the pier and to get one back when you're ready.

    Have a great cruise!!
