What do I do if I see a great white coming towards me for an exploratory bite?

What is the best way to get it to go away and not be interested in me?

Is punching it on the snout effective?

  1. Your best defence is to stay out of the water. It is extremely foolish to swim in waters frequented by great white sharks. There are stories of divers or swimmers poking sharks in the eye or banging them on the snout but you have to get past their teeth and lightning reflexes to do so. Stay on the beach of if you must enter the water do so in a cage.

  2. i hav never been scuba diving..but I've heard if you punch them in the snout or their gills they realize you are not food and go away.their snout is where there sensory organs are i think so it scrambles all of there senses.

  3. kicking it and punching it is very effective. they more than likely wont attack something that puts up too much of a fight. thats why dolphins are their enemies. dolphins will use the power of their snout to hit the shark in it's side. eventually the shark leaves.

  4. punch its gills if you can, but touching hard or punching the snout works but not as well as the gills

  5. You're not supposed to punch sharks on the nose because that area isn't very sensitive. To hurt and hopefully repel a shark, you're supposed to punch the gills.

  6. Get out of the water.

  7. To be totally honest, chances are you won't see a Great White coming for an exploratory bite because they're lazy and sneak attack from below the surface of the water. They usually will bite once, with a bite force of approx. 300 lbs and then leave to let their prey weaken and come back for an easy meal.

If face with a shark attack in general, go for the gills or the eyes. Sharks have fast reflexes and can react to your blows very quickly.

To avoid being attacked, stay vertical in the water and don't splash around. Seals lay horizontal in the water and make a lot of noise doing that will provoke the shark.

Punching the snout isn't effective, the snout is more sensitive to radio waves and electronic stimulation, not physical blows. As previously stated the gills and eyes are your best bet.

  8. No, punch it in the eye.
