  1. Commercial dog food is junk. It contains things that you wouldnt imagine. Im not going to go into it to much but it is best explained with the four ds dead dying disabled diseased. For exaple, roadkill, dead zoo animals, euthinized animals. These are all sent to rendering plants and processed into your dogs food. Bht and bha which you will see on your pedigree dog label are powerfull chemicals that are added so that the food can sit on the shelf for two years. These chemicals are not safe for human consuption, and have cancer causing agents in them. The average life span for a dog in the USA is 11-13 years, did you know a dog can live to be 25 or older. We are slowly poisining our beloved companions with this commercial dog food. I saw somebody mention innova, this is a very good food that i would feed my dog. Try to research  wellness, evo, canidae, california natural, health wise. These are just a few brands that are considered human grade dog food and are the only thing you should feed you chi.

  2. Check out Innova.

They're known for good quality and even have puppy brands.

They're a little pricey though because it's good quality dog food.

    But dogs love it!

  3. You know, I read people saying, "Don't feed your dog Pedigree, don't feed your dog Iams, don't feed your dog Purina!"  I have fed my dogs Pedigree for a year now, and they love it, and they are healthy dogs.  My mom fed our dogs Purina Dog Chow when I was a kid, and we had the same two happy, healthy dogs for over 15 years.  I understand that these more expensive brands may be great food, but that doesn't mean that the other brands are bad.  And I'm sure some dog food elitist will come along and whip out ingredients and say "It has chicken corn meal glucostrodene blabbity blah in it!  That's bad extra chicken parts that you would never eat!"  But my dogs aren't crying about it.  If the dog is eating it, I would stick to the Pedigree.

I will now sit back and wait for the ugly comments and thumbs down ratings to roll in, lol.

  4. Chis are tiny and do not eat much so you want to be sure what you are putting in is good quality so they are getting what they need.

    Check out  www.dogfoodanalysis.com

Read up on the 5 and 6 star dog foods these are the better products out there.

Look for something with no corn, soy or wheat in it as those are the big allergens in dogs.

They have some grain free diets that very high quality but your dog may or may not do well on them. Some dogs have issues as they are to rich for them. Others do wonderfully on these type diets.

Find one you like that you can afford and stick to it.

All of the 4 5 or 6  star dog foods are a far better product than pedigree.

  5. My trainer at petsmart said that natural choice is the best choice and my dog uses it and he is very healthy and its affordable.

  6. Some ppl have already recommended- and i agree...try Innova Puppy wet/dry food (mainly meats/brown rice).

    http://www.naturapet.com/

We tried Pedigree w/ our pup and she had the runs for a week and would go several times a day (it has too much fillers- corn/fat/etc). After switching over to Innova, it's more regular and she goes at consistent times only after she eats now. She's 5 mos, 5 lbs and I feed her 1/4 cup dry + 1 tbsp wet twice a day. It seems to work for her.

    Good luck-

  7. ALL those dogs food you see in target.walmart.etc. are garbage to your petstore and ask if they got eagle pack holliestic [go to eagle pack . com]

    or get blue buffalo/wilderness

    Thats one of the best

  8. Pedigree is horrible. All of the dog food brands you find at grocery stores are terrible. All filled with by-products, corn, and preserved with bht and ethoxyquin - all terrible...

Check out Wellness. Its an all natural food, very healthy. They made a puppy version and after he is 1yr old you could switch him to the Wellness small breed kind.  You can find thse foods at Petco or Pet Supermarket (not sold at Petsmart)  Its very healthy food, not made in a big factory with other dog foods so it wasn't involved w/ any of the dog food scares recently...

    Other natural healthy brands:

    Merrick

    Canidae

    Innova

you need to learn what the ingredients are and what they really mean... heres a great site for that:  http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?...

Alot of foods claim to be natural, and are not...you'll find those at grocery stores..        look at this website and see where Wellness is sold. I've fed my dog this for years and the vet always tells me how good it is for her... once you read about dog food ingredients and compare, you'll see...

and  http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/dog_welln...    (same site different section)

  9. I feed my chi's a rotation diet of Evo, Merrick's Before Grain and Nature's Variety Instinct. I don't believe that dogs need grain so I go for the no grain foods there are others but these are the ones I chose.

Even though these foods, especially the Evo, tend to have a larger initial out lay the small amount of food that is needed makes the overall price extremely inexpensive. I was very surprised that it ended up being so cheap, perhaps you'd like to give one of these foods a try.
