Best exchange rate for U.S. dollars to pesos?

I was trying to figure out if it was better to exchange my money at a bank in the United States or if I should wait to do it in Mexico. If I should wait till I get to Mexico, should I go to a bank or a converter booth? Thanks for any help!

  1. Much better rates in Mexico.  A 'Casa de Cambio', a bank or your ATM card.  If you use an ATM, check on it's international fee ... and be sure to notify them you'll be in Mexico.  ATM fees can run from 1-5%

Again ... much better rates in Mexico.  Just try a Commercial bank in the US or a Casa de Cambio at a US airport - terrible.  Also - you only need to change a few hundred to get started.  You get the rest as needed at a local ATM

  2. I had travelers cheques that i could not cash at the regular bank, i had to go to a different place & my exchange rate was worse since they take a fee for cashing.

    exchange rates change daily

  3. It varies from day 2 day. Check out the papers/TV 4 daily exchange prices or check out www.foreigneschange.com (check 4 the city that u live on). I hope that u know that u have 2 pay a surcharge 4 that.

  4. I would prolly go to a US bank.

You can expect 11 pesos per $1 US.

You can check the exchange rate every day in the newspaper.

I'm sure it's on line too, but IDK where.

  5. The person two answers above is right I think, because I googled it. The current exchange rate is hovering around 9 cents / 1 peso. (or ~11 pesos / dollar) But when my dad went to Mexico on a business trip, he said that if you pay with American Dollars they always give you 10 pesos a dollar no matter what. (You can pay in our money, at least in the cities - he told me- , but they will give you change in theirs) The exchange rate is more like 11 pesos / dollar so I dont know. So I think it might be better to change the currency here just in case you want the 11th peso :-) . I guess in the long run it wont matter, the difference between 10 and 11 pesos isnt that much. Maybe you could just use up all your USA money until you're left with a bunch of pesos in change.  ;^)
