Question:

Best fabric to line a winter coat with?

Hi!

I'm looking for lining to go inside a wool coat I am making. There are a lot of fabrics I've been considering, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions. Obviously it must be dry cleanable. I live in the midwest so it gets cold but not so horribly cold that I will need a separate inner layer, I think. I love prints but that's not necessary.

Some things I have considered:

-Satin-backed flannel

-Quilted nylon (hard to find)

-Quilted cotton (is this dry cleanable? will this look tacky?)

Thanks for any help you can give!

  1. Satin Backed flannel would be awesome. Almost nothing is more comforting in the cold than flannel.

Quilted Cotton also would be great, but I dont' know the answer about drycleaning. I don't think it would be tacky. Cotton is nice because not only is it warm, but it breaths really nice.

an excellent source of fabrics at very reasonable prices with fantastic service.

  3. I love the satin back flannel, when I was a kid, i used it in a wool coat, and 35 years later I still have it. great stuff, comes in lots of colors, and its easy to put on and off.
