Question:

Best fantasy football pick?

I get to choose any pick I want in this years fantasy football draft with some of my friends, and I wanted to know, what pick was best? I know I would theoretically get the best player in the league with the number 1 pick (LT), but should I just pick a late pick so I can get two solid players?

Any advice would help, thanks!

  1. 7th pick is the best in my opinion. Your never waiting long for picks and you get some good quality picks early too

  2. I always liked being around the 4th pick. Especially in a year like this where there are 4 picks that are pretty even.

  3. There are many schools of thought on this.  I'll simply weigh in on things to consider.

    1. Know your scoring system.

    2. Realize that the NFL saw its fewest number of 300-carry backs since 1999.  The age of the feature back is over, and there are precious few top backs available.

    3. LT is just about the only back with no significant question marks.

    4. Westbrook and Steven Jackson both are in contract disputes right now.

    5. Peterson, another top choice is not a feature back, and has a horrible injury history from high school on.  It's not if he'll get hurt, it's when.

    6. QB is a comparatively deep position.  You can afford to pass on the top tier for a round or two, and still come away with a top passer.  A player like Jay Cutler will slide a long way, yet he's capable of 30 TDs or better.

    7. Focus on VALUE at every pick, wherever you pick.  The better you do over a player's ADP, the better your team will be on paper.

There are benefits to be found wherever you choose to pick, but I like being first overall, where I'll get 3 of the Top 25 choices, and arguably the best player overall.

  4. Take LT,then get one of the top WRs in round 2.I could give better advice if I knew the size of your league, but I'd wait till atleast the 4th round on on QBs.Take care of your RBs+WRs often and early!

  5. I like to get the 8th or so pick. With this pick you can usually get one of the last elite RB's and then in the next round you can take another stud RB or a great QB/WR. Good luck with whatever pick you take.

  6. Take LT.

  7. Pick the middle pick so if its a 10 team choose 5 if its a 12 team choose 6. Those are the best picks because you are guaranteed a good player every 5 or 10 picks. Thats a great spot because one or another guy is always likely to black out and take a guy that is overhyped leaving a player you like available....

More importantly you can look at the teams that select after you and strategicly take a player that you want based on the other teams needs.

For example lets say Ben Roethlisberger is the best available QB and you want him and you are the 5th pick in the 5th round, but you also are desperate for a receiver and Torry Holt is the best available WR.

So you look at all the teams that pick after you and realize that all the other teams have already picked a QB, but that a couple still need a top WR. So you grab Torry Holt realizing that the other teams will most likely pass on a QB. Then you end up getting both Holt and Roethlisberger.

Or lets say you grab Big Ben, you lose Holt.

This is a draft strategy that only the best owners use and it is so important to understand what the other teams needs are before you go and select a player, because often times you can get two of the players you covet instead of just one.

If you select 1 or 12 you often have to wait 23 picks before you select next and if the draft doesnt fall right you can end up with a crappy team and having to trade your number one pick to get help.

At the 5th pick you should be able to get a top RB like Addai/Westbrook/Gore/Steven Jackson and a top WR like Chad Johnson or Larry Fitzgerald or Andre Johnson
