Question:

Best fish for a 9 gallon aquarium

of course once cycled, what fish would you put in there? i wanted something a little less common than the livebearers, but i can't think of many others. please no guppies, i've just had them for a year or so, and i have many more still in my 18g. i love cichlids and would like to try them, but i get a funny feeling 9g would be way too small lol. so i guess my choices are narrowed down a lot. a betta would be good, and i like balloon mollies too. dwarf gouramis are pretty but i'm not sure if the tank would be big enough.

thanks in advance for your help :)

  1. Something completely different....

Take out the heater and get some White Cloud Minnows. A handfull of them will do fine in a 9gal tank, probably even breed for you.

    Neat little fish.

  2. Bettas are quite solitary fish and rarely get along with other fish very well. You could probably put in one male dwarf gourami and maybe a bottom feeder and 2 or 3 little fish to be safe. You could do the same with a betta as long as his tank mates aren't aggressive. Don't put male gouramis or bettas together (you probably already knew that) and dont put a male gourami in with a male betta either.

  3. i like danios

    try

    kyathit danios

    zebra danios

    leopard danios

    and

    gold zebra danios
