  1. probably guppies would be the best, and also get something like crabs or crayfish, kids usually love them

but heres an idea, just ask him wich fish he likes or pick the one he seems to be looking at the most

when your buying your tank look on craigslist for great deals on tanks, shoot for a tank around 20 gallons (about 2  feet long, 1 foot high, 1.5 feet tall)

  2. Get a Couple Goldfish Maybe Different colers or types!

  3. here are some good options

    BETTA fish

    heater (they are tropical)

    small low power filter

    5 gallon tank

    water conditioner

    dark gravel

    live plants

    1 betta

    GUPPY fish

    heater

    small filter

    water conditioner

    dark gravel

    live plants

    breeding trap

    6 females 3 males

    20 gallon aquarium

they are very likley to breed and have babies that you can sell

    white clod mountain minnows (coldwater)

    small filter

    water conditioner

    dark gravel

    live plants

have atleast 6 and have 2 gallons per fish

    danios

    small filter

    small heater

    water conditioner

    live plants

    dark gravel

have atleast 6 and have 2 gallons per fish

    --------------------------------------...

some people have given you bad rules for fish

schoolers (danios minnows tetras)  need groups of 6 minimum

    fancy goldfish need 20 gallons

    comets/common/feeder goldfish need 50 gallons

    the tank type groups are

    coldwater freshwater

    tropical freshwater

    coldwater marine

    tropical marine

plecos can not live in small tanks

    most grow over a foot

with the exception of the bristlenose

  4. dont get goldfish

they are hard to take care of and

you would need a 15 gallon tank for 1 though they are incredibly 'playful'

and bettas though they might not need a lot of space and time~

are the ideal beginner's first fish

but because of their aggressive you could only put one in a tank by itself

tropicals (livebearers) breed very often and you will quickly run out of room

tetras and danios come in a fun array of colors and need to be in schools of at least 3

cichlids and angels are much harder to take care and should not be for a 5 year old to take care of

remember that there are 4 main groups of fish

    tropicals~ guppies, bettas, tetras

    coldwater~goldfish, minnows

    cichlids~ oscars

    semi tropical~ angels, barbs

and each group has their on special needs

for tropical and semi~ at least 2 gallons each fish

cichlids and goldfish~ 20 gallons for one and each additional 10 gallons

remember to do some research before you get a fish ex. internet, books

and heres a great website if you want  a betta

    http://www.bettatalk.com/

have fun and good luck on your new pet : )

  5. Get him Guppies. Do not get him Beta fish, they eat eachother. Goldfish are good as well but a little boreing.

  6. Neon Tetras or guppies.

  7. beta fish!

  8. get him a tiny little water frog. ask someone who works there and im sure they will know what your talking about. they are SO cute but dont hold them, they r wateer frogs and they eat like blood worms, and i have mine in a half a gallon tank with a little bit of rocks and a plant.

  9. I don't really think there is a best fish for a kid.

You should get a fish that's cool to look at and at a fair price.

  10. get a betta. there easy to care for and they dont need alot of space. dont get guppies because they reproduce very fast.

  11. Bettas are always easy to care for options for kids that come in a wide variety of colors and styles for around 3$.  If you keep them in an appropriate tank and not a bowl these guys can be very active and fun fish to keep.

Goldfish are really bad choices generally because they actually require a minimum of a 20 gallon aquarium for just 1 fancy.  They are also pretty dirty fish and need a good filtration system with regular water changes.

If you get a basic 10 gallon aquarium with filter, heater, and decorations you'll have a lot of great easy to care for kid options like zebra danios which come in glofish and long fined varieties, guppies, cories, and platies.  All of these are generally easy to care for and give you lots of options with colors.

  12. Gold fish.

I have a two gold fishes (Adallina and Avallina) from 6 months.

No need to get fancies one. Get him a pair. It's very easy to take care of them. Just feed them twice a day.And clean the water in every 2-3 days.

Whenever i used to give them food they would come up and eat them in front of me.

But dont give the more food , they will die if they get over feed. =)

  13. the little 30cent fish are feeder fish and can grow to be a foot long. tho most dont because of the tiny "goldfish bowls" people put them in. i would get him a betta. they can live in bowls because their not as dirty as a goldfish.

  14. if u get guppies

    they breed alot

and u can only put tropical fish with them

  15. yeah guppies are really good.they stay small.platies are cute too.they also stay small.i have 2 guppies and like 7 platies.if you get guppies you dont need alot of food.if you get platies you need alot of food.

if you need more info email me at sivilitili@yahoo.com

  16. i agree with my friend above, try a beta or even a goldfish

  17. Get a small tank not a bowl, and put some Neon Tetras, with any color, Betta fish, and a pleco. And some guppies. Look around and see if you like any others and see if your son likes them! =D

Good Luck! Have fun picking them out! XD
