what are your opinions on the best flea meds? Where i live, the fleas are horrible in my area this year. My sister used frontline plus on her male dog (about 70 pounds) 2 years ago and it didn't seem to help him at all and when she would try to flea bath him, fleas where back on him with in hours. (and yes, she treated the home) My dog needs treated but i wanted opinions on what is best since i can only use the meds once a month and i don't want to buy something that wont work for him! (please no wal-mart type brands...i want something that's good quality and that will work or any natural remedies that will work)

Thanks!!

  1. i suggest the flea comb and bleach method. dip the comb in a mixture of bleach and water every time u stroke his/her fur. also get flea shampoo (try petsmart or petco)

  2. The best flea medication is revolution or frontline (or any similar prioduct). You sqeeze the gel on the back of the dogs neck once a month and it kills all the fleas on and off the dog. Its hard to believe but it really works. The house i lived at had a bad flea problem, but since we have been using that stuff i havent seen one in over 3 years.

  3. Sunlight Soap, is cheap and you can buy it from the supermarket.  Kills fleas instantly.

  4. Brewers Yeast As A Natural Cure For Fleas

Another one of the better home remedies for killing fleas is brewers yeast. Apply it to your pet's food in the same manner as you would apply the garlic.

    Neem

Apply oil or lotion to the animals skin. Neem, an Indian herb, is known to be one of the most effective home remedies for killing fleas. Some animals are sensitive to neem, so you may have to use the lotion which is not as strong as the oil.

Neem can be helpful with other pet skin problems too. Dogs and cats dislike the bitter taste of neem, which means that they would be less inclined to bite and chew at their own skin.

    Natural Flea Treatment With Lemon

Jackie from Amherst, New York writes: "One of my favorite home remedies for killing fleas is as follows. Take two pints of water and one lemon sliced thin. Bring the water to a boil."

"Place the lemon into the boiled water and let stand 12 hours. Put in a sprayer or on a soft cloth, rub into fur to protect from fleas until the next bath and combing."

    Flea Home Remedy With Vinegar

Susan from Houston, Texas writes: "What also works is to put vinegar in the dog's bathtub when bathing! It surely helps prevent having more fleas!

    Apple Cider Vinegar

Michelle from Austin, Texas writes: "For immediate relief of fleas use apple cider vinegar. This does not kill the fleas, but they jump off right away, so do this outside. Use two parts vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle."

"Completely cover the coat and comb through. I have found that this home remedy for fleas lasts for about three to four days. I learned from another site that four tbls. per gallon in the water bowl helps fight fleas also."

    flea combs

borax (sprinkle around your yard where your pets can't get to it)

  5. Nothing worked for our dogs fleas (which were severe due to the dry pavers outside).  We just recently bought an insecticidal concentrate from the pet store (it was about $70) but we only used $30 worth and it last for 9months.  This treatment in conjunction with Advantage treatment on our dog has finally left our home flea free.  I honestly don't think natural remedies would word for severe fleas.

  6. The first time I used Frontline, it was great. But in time I had to change. I've had great experience with Revolution. Please read and follow the instructions carefully so that it will be effective.

You will also need to 'clean up' the surroundings. I use Asuntol solution and spray it around our house. Ticks like to hide in small crannies within walls and corners. This should do the trick.

Moving forward, use Revolution regularly (once every 2-3 months). When you notice some ticks and flease already, start using Revolution. Also, giving your dog a bath every 2-3 days helps!

    Good luck!
