What brnd has great flutes? I'm going into my 6th year of playing and want a new one. I play an Artley and it's great. I am willing to look for a better brand though.

  1. Google for Jen Cluff (that is NOT me).  Read her EXCELLENT articles about this topic. You can get NO BETTER information.  Go to Yahoo Groups.  Join FLUTENET.  Talk about flutes with 3,00 other FLUTISTS - many famous! - many younger - all day long, if you want.  It is a MUCH better source than Yahoo Answers.

Yamaha, Pearl, Jupiter/DiMedici/Altus, Azumi, Brio, and many otehr are excellent for you.  Gemeinhardt is NO LONGER a brand that any serious teacher recommends - they have gone down a LOT in quality in the last years. Some OLD Gemmies are good - but not the new ones.

  2. Yamaha has great flutes and their prices are fairly reasonable

  3. either a pearl. but whats really good is a gemeinhardt.

  4. HI Kiwi,

If you have been playing for 6  years,  you are quite accomplished and you will definately want an advanced model flute....  The specs for a flute in  your playing level would be:

Sterling silver head, body and footjoint

    White Gold Springs

    Open holes

    Low Bfoot

    In-line G or Off-set> your choice

A really good brand name that has a very popular following is the Yamaha.  The model considered  advanced is in the 400 series.  481 - 471 - 461.    If you have a music store close by,  you should go in and test play one.    New price for this flute is close to $1800.00.   Another name brand that I really like is the Jupiter DiMedici 1011 - price is close to the Yamaha.
