My boyfriend is a huge fisher, and just lost his flyrod! since he does so much, i thought this would be a nice time to give him an upgrade from his "walmart" purchased flyrod. Any ideas?

  1. To know more about

  2. If you want to get him something that's MUCH better than "walmart" but isn't going to break your purse, then take a look at Temple Fork Outfitters.  They make good quality rods that are just as good as rods almost twice as much.

    If he's fishing a smaller stream/river then I think a 3wt is more than adequate.  Any larger rivers/lakes then about a 5wt.

TFO has a good line of rods that will offer something in your price range.

  3. Good fly rods run up to over $1000 (split Gulf of Tonkin bamboo), but you can get pretty decent and serviceable fiberglass rods for as little as $50 to $75.  Rods are a personal thing with guys (ya think that was a pun, maybe) and fly rods more so.  Once you decide on the rod you're willing to pay for, let him help you pick it out.  Check Bass Pro Shop, Cabela's, etc. for makers and prices, then try ebay.  Remember, some fly rods are made for frying pan size trout up to 3-4 pounders, and others are made for 20 pound steelhead and 30 pound salmon.  Some guys like 8.5 - 0 foot rods, while others prefer 7 footers.  A very nice thought on your part.

  4. Without knowing his skill level this could be hard, also what kind of budget do you have for him? i really would suggest a sage z-axsis but i don't think you will be willing to pay for that, i do suggest however the sage launch, it has a fast action, but yet its forgiving if his casting still has faults, i recently bought one for my son and he loves it, and because its from sage you get the life time warranty plus a very good quality rod blank, plus its light in weight. please add more details as to where he fishes and what for and i can give you the line rating he needs if he fishes lakes i would recommend a 6/7 wt rod in about 9"6 if its rivers about a 4/5wt and for smaller streams any thing from a  0 wt to a 4wt

These rods are also worth a try, they arent the best, but for the price they are ok

These arent my choice of rod, but i do know others who love them, they have been around for a while now and have a nice tip action

please post more info about where he fishes and i can help you select a better rod/ AFTM rating.

  5. I didn't know Walmart sold....FlyRods.

If you want to buy him the real deal, just order him a SAGE flyrod combo package from BASS PRO SHOP ONLINE.

Here's the model I recommend, being a pro, get the #6 weight, it will allow him to fish all lakes and streams, other than Alaska area or salt water, if he wants to fish salt water, he will need a #7-9 wt. rod and line.
