Best friend recently started dance, and she is REALLY BAD. Should I tell her?

I've been danceing since I was 2, and I'm gonna go on pointe. She has been dancing for a year, and she's gonna go out and buy pointe shoes. I don't wanna hurt her feelings, but she kneeds to know that she's bad. She asks me if she's good all the time, and I'm tired of lying. What should I tell her?

first of all she CANT JUST GO OUT AND BUY POINTE SHOES. SHE CAN PERMANENTLY DEFORM HER FEET. AND IF HER ANKLES ARENT STRONG ENOUGH SHE COULD BREAK THEM OR GET SERIOUSLY INJURED!!!!! your teacher is the one who decides when you get pointe shoes. and tell her she SUCKS!!! if you dont she could get hurt, physically and emotionally, and she will make a FOOL out of herself.

You have got to tell her. Break it to her gently and convince her shes not ready to be en pointe yet. Offer her extra help just between the two of you and maybe point out to her some of your weaker points so she doesnt feel like she is just terrible. Make sure she knows that she will get better with time and that it just takes practice and hard work

She is a beginner, and as such, she needs a bit of time to learn.  No one is great over night.  And eventually, if she doesn't get any better, she will know it...

Don't critisize, if she's your friend, give her helpful advice, instead of lying outright, say, "that was good, but I have a couple things that might make it better"

tell her teacher you should have at least 2 years of ballet before going en pointe and she is just a beginner so don't tell her shes bad that's rude just tell her shes not ready for pointe and if she doesn't believe you make her talk to the teacher good luck =^..^=

I just started dancing, and I suck. I made it on the Dance Team, and I know I suck - actually. IF my best friend told me I'm not good, it would crush me. Though, construction criticism is nice. I know you won't be like, ".... hey, you kind of.. hmm.. suck?" If you were my best friend, I would sock you. But if you tried to tell me nicely, then yeah.

If shes going to try out, you should let her. So she learns from her own mistakes. If she askes you though, "Should I try out for pointe?" You should give her your honest opinion. Like the whole, "Oh... I don't want to offend you, but I want you to practice more before going to that level. Cause my dance teacher said your suppose to .. etc etc." It would hurt her a litte insy bit, but hey- your trying to help her.

Don't just flat out tell her that she sucks, because she's only a beginner.  Try to tell her, when she asks, that she's improving.  That way, you're not lying.  Also try to give her tips on how to get better.

tell her how many years of training youve "had" to go through, and how much time you'll have to devote to pointework.  if the teacher is ok with her going en pointe, then something is seriously messed up!!!

      but if you think shes truly hopeless, you could suggest that, for ex. you both take the beginning hip hop/lyrical/tap or any other genre!

Well you're actually supposed to have at least 2 years of intensive ballet training before you consider going en pointe... so that's not a smart decision on her part.

It's ok if she's not good if she's only been dancing a year.. but you should tell her that it isn't safe. You could talk to her too. She should understand that you're her best friend and didn't want to hurt her feelings. You're concerned for her safety, etc.

well first of all dont tell her that she is bad she just started but maybe kinda tell her  that she should ask the dance techer if she can start before going on pointe shoes cause they cost $80 about so she is wasting money if she wont be able to do it just tell her some dance tips she probably knos shes not the best

You've been dancing since you were 2, obviously you are gonna be better then her.

If she wants to go out and buy pointe shoes and try challenging her self and going for her dreams, let her! Don't try and stop her because you think she has no chance.

If she asks you what you think of her dancing you don't have to tell her she's absolutley amazing. Say something like "Your flexibility is really good, it's just your pirouettes that need a little more work, Keep practicing, your already getting better!"

First of all, don't go and tell your friend she's really bad. I think you're being too harsh. She's only been dancing for a year! She's not going to be at the same level as someone like you who has been dancing since they were a baby. No one is an expert after only one year of dance, their body still needs to get the hang of it. So stop being such a harsh critic!

Second of all, at my studio you need at LEAST two years of ballet training before going en pointe. But even then that's rare! Most of the girls wait at least until they've done four to five years of ballet before going en pointe. You need to tell your friend that she's not ready for that yet. And don't say it's because she "sucks" or anything like that, but that it's because she can really hurt herself. If she can't roll through her feet onto releve correctly or if she doesn't have enough strength in her ankles she can REALLY hurt herself.

Third, why don't you help her? If you see she's struggling with something, offer to help her out. Correct her when she does something wrong! And explain to her you're not correcting her because you want to be mean, but because you want her to get better. And if she asks you if she's good, you don't have to lie and tell her she's the most amazing dancer! Tell her that with time and practice you can see her becoming a great dancer.

But give her some time! She's just a beginner so it's not surprising she's not that great of a dancer. After another year or two she'll improve a lot. You just need to be supportive and help her out, like a good friend should! :)
