The Hessayon series of Expert books are very handy.

Definitely Hessayon "expert" books, I have many gardening books and am a keen gardener and go to those books everytime, the vegetable expert is the best its the best book you'll ever buy for growing your own veg

I know for a fact that amazon.com has most of these books and they are cheaper.  I don't know exactly what their policy is but they usually use UPS as their shipper and since UPS is a global company you should be able to get them shipped to you in the UK.

I found "The Self-Sufficient Gardener" by John Seymour to be a very useful book. It describes the growing of vegetables, fruit and  herbs and gives other practicle advice on canning freezing, organizing the garden shed and tools and so much more.
