We do not like "typical" tourism places. We rather prefer calm and charmy places

  1. Are you looking for hotels or are you looking for a villa or farmstay (agriturismo)? There are so many options in Tuscany it can get your head spinning.

My two favorite hotels in Tuscany are Locanda dell'Amorosa, south of Siena in the Crete near the town of Sinalunga, and Villa di Piazzano (actually in Umbria but right on the border with Tuscany) near Cortona. Both are stunning and in great locations.

Amorosa is like a dream, with a fabulous restaurant and staff to help you with anything you need. From here you are not far from Pienza (beautiful town and don't miss tasting the cheese), Montepulciano, Montalcino and Siena. My favorite hotel by far.

Piazzano is a manor home redone by a family that now lives in part of the home. They are wonderfully welcoming and the grounds are amazing. It is near Cortona, which is a little too overrun by tourists these days but still worth a visit, but far enough in the countryside to be away from the maddening crowds.

Both places have pools which are key to traveling with kids in Italy in the summer.

Check out their websites (see below) and if this isn't what you had in mind, let me know and I can make some other suggestions.
