Best icing recipe for sugar cookies.?

If you have a sugar cookie recipe that would be great too, but i would like to know your favorite recipe for icing! Do i just add whatever colors i want to the finished product?

  1. The simplist is to use icing sugar. You can add butter (yum!) or milk until it gets to the right consistency. Adding a bit of vanilla is always good. Be carefuly to just add the liquid a bit at a time. You can add food colouring after.

    Sugar Cookies --Handed down to me from my great-great- grandma.

    INGREDIENTS

    1/2 cup butter

    1/2 cup shortening

    1 cup sugar

    1 egg

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon baking soda

    Additional sugar



    DIRECTIONS

    In a mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder and baking soda; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Shape into 1-in. balls. Roll in sugar. Place on greased baking sheet; flatten with a glass. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes.

    Sugar Cookie Icing- No raw egg in this one.

    INGREDIENTS

    1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar

    3 tablespoons butter, softened

    1 tablespoon vanilla extract

    1 tablespoon milk

    3 drops  food coloring -what ever color

    1 (2.25 ounce) jar  decorator sugar



    DIRECTIONS

    Combine confectioners' sugar butter, vanilla and milk, beating until creamy. Thin with a few more drops of milk (if necessary) to reach desired spreading consistency. Stir in optional food coloring. Spread frosting over cooled cookies and decorate with colored sugar, if desired.


  4. okay so i have a family recipe that is absolutely delicious !

    everybody loves it !

    mix confectioners sugar and milk in a bowl until you have as much as you need . make it as thick as you wan by adding more sugar. then add a little under half a stick of butter . mix that in and then add one tablespoon of pure vanilla extract . then just mix in whatever colors you want !

    it makes a delicious butter cream frosting!

    BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING

    1/3 c. butter

    3 c. powdered sugar

    1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

    2 tbsp. milk

    Heat 1/3 cup butter in saucepan over medium heat until delicate brown; remove from heat. Stir in 3 cups powdered sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoons milk. Beat until frosting is smooth and spreadable. can add colors but I like chocolate on my sugar cookies!

    DARK CHOCOLATE BUTTER CREAM FROSTING

    2 2/3 c. confectioners' sugar

    3/4 c. unsweetened cocoa

    6 tbsp. butter

    5-6 tbsp. milk

    1 tsp. vanilla

    Combine confectioners' sugar and cocoa in a small bowl. Cream butter with 1/2 cup of the cocoa mixture in a small bowl. Alternately add remaining cocoa mixture and milk; beat to spreading consistency. Stir in vanilla. For glazed frosting stir in 1 tablespoon corn syrup.

    Makes about 2 cups.

  6. this is SO EASY & great for decorating, & it sets up nice & hard. you can buy the meringue powder at a store like michael's or a.c. moore (wilton brand), where you can also buy the wilton icing colorings (they have a gel-like consistency & come  in little cylindrical pots; you only need a very tiny dab to color your icing)

    mix together:

    1 pound confectioner's sugar

    3 tbsp meringue powder

    5-6 tbsp water

    that's it! :-)

        * 2 egg whites

        * 3 cups of confectioners sugar

    Or use mixture as a glue and icing for a gingerbread house or a sweets tree for a buffet party or holiday gathering.

    Things You’ll Need:

        * 1 cup of sugar

        * 1 egg yolk

        * 2 tablespoons of flour

        * 1 cup of white milk

        * 1 teaspoon of vanilla

        * 2 tablespoons of confectioners powder sugar

        * 1 cup of margarine

    Step1

    Mix sugar, egg yolk, flour and milk together in a bowl.

    Step2

    Pour ingredients into saucepan on the stove and set at medium-high for a one minute. Cook until it's thick.

    Step3

    Refrigerate for two to three hours until cool.

    Step4

    Add vanilla extract, confectioner's powder sugar, margarine and combine together with the other mixed ingredients and mix well until its creamy.

    Step5

    Smooth the vanilla icing on cake and sit in fridge.

    2 cups white sugar

    2 tablespoons chocolate syrup

    2/3 cup sour cream                                                                    

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

        In a saucepan, combine the sugar and chocolate syrup. When well mixed, stir in the sour cream. Cook over medium heat to the soft ball stage (234 degrees F, 112 degrees C on candy thermometer).

        Remove from the heat. blend in vanilla and beat until thick enough to spread.
