  1. if you visit The Bronx, try Pio Pio on 138th Street. IHOP in Harlem. Amy Ruth's on 116th street and Malcolm X boulevard in Harlem. There is a nice Chinese restaurant on 110th street and Amsterdam Ave in Manhattan. Also walk along Broadway between 79th street up to 116th street. Plenty of restaurants to choose from.

well she did ask for inexpensive. i dunno know how inexpensive those are compared to my list...

  2. Baby Bo's Cantina, Mamoun's Falafel, Madras Mahal, Manetta's, Vezzo,Big Wong's, Pomme Frites, Dojo, Max, Benny's Burrito's, Lombardi's, Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, 'ino, S'nice, Hangwai, Mama Mexicano, and my all time fave Red Bamboo (veggie food and fake meat that tastes real)

If you really want non-tourist then try the street vendors. This is gooood food and some of them have won the Vendy awards. Try NY Dosa Cart at W 4th and MacDougal (won 2007 Vendy); King of Falafel and Shawarma on Broadway and 30th Street in Astoria Queens... go to http://www.streetvendor.org/vendies/2007...
