Best inexpensive washer?

Hi.

Our washer just broke and we are now looking to buy a new one.

Please suggest the best top loading and the best front loading. Which do you suggest?

What are the best brands and what are the benefits to a front loading washer.

Price range: $350-650

Best is such a relative term!  Since I don't use most of the features on the higher-end models, I tend toward the lower-end models.  I would suggest you make a list of the features you really want, then go to a site like http://www.lowes.com, which allows you to compare several models.

I would suggest spending the extra money for the front-loading washer - they use less soap, water and energy, and they are gentler on your clothing.  Just be sure to buy the pedestal as well.
