Over summer, i'm looking for a vacation that will be fun and have tons of things to do, yet relaxing at the same time. I love coral reefs, pretty beaches, etc.

What would be the best island/part of an island to go to?

Have you been to any of these places? What are they like?

  1. Good question. The islands can offer different activities and points of interest. While you can find some common activities on the islands, such as horseback riding, water sports and tennis and golf, it really  depends on what else you're into. For instance, if you like carnival, it's too late for Trinidad's but you can take in Crop Over if you travel to Barbados in the summertime, which is also known for great east coast surfing (Atlantic Ocean), Harrison's Cave (an absolute marvel) and loads of tennis courts :) Jamaica has Dunn's river, of course, boating on the Ocho Rios, and Reggae Sunfest. You can also trek up the Blue Mountain. Travel to Trinidad and you can take in the incredible unspoilt beauty of Tobago (some call it heaven on earth). Cuba, Curacao and Puerto Rico offer some great old-world architecture, and exposure to non-Anglo cultures. In Cuba you can also visit a cigar factory or a rum factory. There are also a few jazz festivals in some of the islands with great artists; you can always do a Google search to find them. And by the way, Bermuda isn't part of the Caribbean!

Here's hoping you have fun where ever you decide to go!

  2. To name one...Dominica. South-west part of the island for coral reefs I think. Best beaches are in the north. It's more of a nature lovers place. Lots of rivers, hiking, lakes. It's wicked cool if you know where to go.

  3. as far as beaches Antigua's runaway and Dickson bay are awesome and gorgeous Bermuda beaches are nice as well

  4. I have traveled to most of the islands in the Caribbean and I do have my favorites.

    US Virgin islands

    British Virgin Islands

    Turks and Caicos

    Anguilla

    Antigua

    St Maarten/St Martin

    Bahamas

    Mexico

The above islands are just a few of my favorites. You can snorkel, scuba dive, sail, hike, zip line, shop duty free, sightsee, swim with the dolphins, go fishing.

Many things to do. Pick a island, research it and come back with any specific questions. Tripadvisor.com is a great place to research or pick up a travel book.

    Good Luck)

  5. Curacao offers great coral reefs, beautiful beaches, relaxing atmosphere, and many other activities to keep you busy the rest of the time. There's a national park you can hike around in, bike trails through the park, the Curacao sea aquarium, the Ostrich farm (largest ostrich farm outside of africa), parke shete boka, historic downtown area, Kura Hulanda museum, and plenty more.

  6. I have lived in Jamaica and traveled to Grenada, Cuba, Nassau

Jamaica was lovely but you need to know how to get away from the tourist spots

Nassau is OK but my fave was Grenada - the people are charming and Grande Anse Beach was in the Guinness Book of Records as the best beach in the world

Beautiful white powdery sand and transluscent blue water

Law states that no building can be built higher than thpalm trees so the skyline is beautiful and the beach appears unspoilt.

Lordy. I am talking myself into going back there! See you on the beach   ....   bye

  7. If you are looking for nice beaches and and coral reefs, Tobago is the place. Tobago has the biggest and the best coral reefs in the world.

The Wreck of the Maverick, sunk in 1997 off Mt Irvine, is invariably abundant in fish life, and close encounters with large barracuda or giant jewfish are not uncommon.

Then after you can go across to Trinidad, for just US$50 via Caribbean Airlines or Tobago Express. Or by boat for just US$8. There are many sites to visit and things to do.

You have to look on the tourism website, there are too much to list and explain!

Tobago is a snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing paradise.

  8. Islands are just islands. Doesn't have a lot to do besides beach things. If you want more than that, you have to go to a big island, as Puerto Rico, where you have beach fun and city fun.

  9. A lot depends when you plan to go...hurricane season is the summer months from about July on in MOST islands. Aruba though is a safe place - beaches are great and lots of resorts to choose from. I've traveled a lot in the Caribbean and I probablt would send you to the BVI or at least St.John, St.Thomas and I especially like Tortola - BUT the time of year your going is

open to the hurricanes - have a wonderful trip!

  10. JAMAICA is definitely the best no other island can test the people are so friendly and warm hearted. if you are up beated you can go to Kingston,montego-bay,or negril but if you are the kind of person that loves nature and a quiet get away you can go to Port Antonio or Ocho Rios in Jamaica every where is FUN!!! you are going to love it.
