  1. ok I started shopping on the day I found out what I was having (21 wks)we had our baby shower @ 30 wks any longer than that I wouldnt of had the energy to deal with all those people. I told my family I was expecting almost immedialtly after I found out I was almost in my 2nd trimester

we bought a graco travel system (car seat with stroller) which is cheaper and more convenient than buying each piece

a graco pack n play which is the play pen/changing table/basinette which serves multi-use

my sister lives by carter's clothing they are durable and you can find them for relativly good prices (although she has givin me alot of my nephews clothes he;s grown out of already and they are almost brand new still)

The best crib I dont know but I do recomend one that will grown with your baby (ie 4in1 crib, toddler, daybed, full) so it will be cheaper in the long run)

A changing table is a must (one w/storage perferably ie drawers) It can be used to store diapers wipes bathing essentials etc.

and I recomend buying an extre dresser or 2 my son has tons of clothes and needed 2 dressers and hes not here yet not to mention a closet full of clothes

  2. Remember, that the hospital bill is HUGE, and diapers, clothing, baby food, etc. are all future expenses too.  I have heard that you should either buy one step up from the basic model or one step down from the most expensive.

With my son, I had both my showers after he was born.  My one shower was a gift card shower which was awesome.  You can also have just a diaper shower.  With my daughter, I had it about 2 weeks before I delivered.  I liked that, too.

Every bottle, pacifier, diaper, wipe, etc depends on your preferences and your baby's specific needs.  A baby with colic or acid reflux would require a different "best" bottle than a baby that has trouble latching on, and a baby with sensitive skin requires different laundry detergent and wipes than a baby that does not have issues.  Also, are you only willing to buy name brand items?

Baby clothing - basically you get what you pay for - sort of.  We are one income and I cannot have my children in $20 t-shirts that they will only fit into twice.  So I find these items at garage sales in perfect condition for literally nothing.  I just paid 25 cents for a little girls, pink Nike sweatshirt, something that I would NEVER pay $30+ for in-store.

Stroller - get the set.  Babies will only need their infant seat for about 6 months.

I had a nice crib with both my children.  I then also had 1-2 playpens for traveling, and for playing in another room.  Get one crib and at least one pack n play.  The changing table thing I think is cool, we just never had one and I can't say that I necessarily missed it.

I registered for my shower when I was 5 or 6 months along.  If you don't want to know, you can register whenever, but if you want to know, wait til you find out so you don't have to go back again.  Don't register for baby clothes or buy any - you will get TONS at your shower anyway (unless there is something you just have to have).

I told my BF (now DH) and our parents when I was 7 weeks - when I found out.  Most of our family and friends found out very shortly after.  We were all surprised because my BF had moved away and I had just graduated high school and was planning on moving off to college.  Yes, lots of surprise.  With my daughter, we told everyone pretty much right away again.

Good luck!  And if you have $$ to burn, invest in a college fund now!

  3. You should have a baby shower two to three months before you are due, and buy the rest of what you didn't get at the shower after.

I like Luvs b/c they are the only diapers that don't leak, but as newborns I like the Pampers Sensitive diapers.

I have so many Carter's outfits for my daughters, but really clothing doesn't matter what brand.

I like the cribs that have the changing table and drawers attached to it that can be removed and the crib changes to a toddler and full size bed later on.

Get the firmest mattress you can find

I like the Born Free bottles

Travel systems are cheaper than if you were to buy separately, but you probably won't use the stroller exclusively unless you go somewhere where you have to walk alot.

    Hope this helps

  4. hi,

I would have your shower sometime in your second trimester when you usually feel the best, and it still gives you time to pick up anything you don't get from the shower.

I prefer the bottles with the bags you fill and dispose of when your done. it's cleaner and eliminates swallowed air, so less burps, spit ups, and gas, and that leads to less fussiness.

There is no perfect brand for baby clothes, but look for all natural fabrics like cotton that breath well and are easy put on, remove, and wash. I wouldn't spend a fortune on clothes, buy them on sale, becausethey grow out of them so quickly. I prefer organic cotton, especially for night time.

As far as the crib goes, they all meet certain safety standards, but I invested in one that can go from a crib to a toddler bed to a twin/day bed and it's worked well. you will have to get a bigger mattress after you go from toddler to regular.  I started with a playyard, and it was great. they do grow out of it around 30 lbs, but it's useful after too.

the stroller combo sets are great, but the car seat usually only goes to 30 pounds, so you will probly have to buy another one after. On the otherhand, they are all removable from their base ) the part that buckles into the car, so you can take the whole seat with you without having to go through the trouble of buckling and unbuckling everytime, it just snaps on the base.  They also sell transitional ones that go from newborn to age 10 and can go either front or rear facing, but infants tend to get swallowed up in them. The stroller in the combo sets can be used until it's not needed anymore.  Just look for one with a head rest built in. If it doesn't you can also buy these seperately.

I started shopping when I found out the s*x to get the best deals and get them when they're on sale.

I would also invest in a swing and a bouncy seat, as well as a floor pad for them to play on.  Exersaucers and jumpers are really fun for when their older, about 5-6 months. Hope this helped!

  5. I had my baby shower during my 7th month.

Bottles-It really depends on your baby, some babies have to go through several types before you find one they like.

Diapers-more expensive is not always better. I would say Luvs but I am using Parents Choice.

Clothing-let's face it, babies p**p and puke on their clothes, even the cute expensive ones. They also grow out of them fast. So go with cheap clothes if you are buying new. Otherwise, garage sales, thrift shops and Ebay are great places to stock up without breaking the bank.

Crib-There are alot out there. I like the ones that are 3 in 1 or 4 in 1.

Mattress-make sure it's firm and fits snuggly in your crib.

StrolIer-I don't like the stroller travel systems but alot of people do so it's a personal choice. A baby grows out of the infant seat pretty fast and those strollers are pretty heavy.

Crib-get a crib and a pack and play. It can be used in another room in the house or when you go visit someone. The ones with the changing table and bassinet in them are nice too.

I started shopping for my baby even before I was pregnant when I saw deals I couldn't pass up. It was things I knew I would want for my baby. I was 6 weeks when I found out I was pregnant and that is when we started telling people and yes, they were shocked and happy.

  6. My favorite items are my boppy and diaper genie.

I think the best month is the 7th.

I like the playtex drop-ins and the playtex wide mouth vent-air.

For diapers I like pampers swaddles.

Any crib brand is fine but I like the crib that grow with the baby 4 in .

Any firm mattress is fine I have a Seely.

I like my travel system from Graco.

I have both a playpen and a crib. I keep the playpen at my mother-in laws. The play pen you are thinking of is a pack in play.

I started shopping in my seventh month. I had originally just told my husband and my dad and next thing I know it is spread to my family.

  7. -The best baby Items to get are Boppy Pillows, Swings, Bouncy seats, and play gyms

    - baby shower between 30-35 weeks, gives you time to set up the baby room and get what you didn't get at the baby shower

    - Best bottles, Tie between Playtex Vent air system and playtex disposables with drop ins

-Diapers, most expensive are huggies, and they SUCK, leave little jello bits on the but, i like pampers  and really love luvs for the price. The walmart white cloud diapers suck, the taps always rip off

    - Best baby clothing, Carters or once upon a child

    - All cribs go by the same safety features, so its your personal prefrance on wood color and design

    -Serta baby Mattress

-the travel system is the way to go, a lot less expensive, it all matches and has the same perks as if you where buying them seperate

-A crib is the best in the long run, it will last alot longer.....But the pack and play is great for the first 6 months and comes in handy till the baby is about 3

-I started the second I found out what i was having and i told the family and friends when i found out

  8. Your in the wrong Catagory.

Best Baby items: I'm not exactly sure.

Baby Shower: 3 to 2 months before your due.

    Best Bottles: Sassy MAM UltiVent

    Best Dipers: Wal-Mart White Cloud

Best Clothing: I'm not positive... But they look cute when the kid is wearing converses. :]]

    Best Crib: IKEA LEKSVIK

    Best Matress: Serta Pillowtop

    I'd by seperate.

    Crib.

I've never been pregnant, but I've went through pregnancys with my friends and we shop when we find things but we have everything by the last month.

    I can't answer that question.

  9. I am not yet a mommy but I did read a lot before buying anything... :)

Best baby items : I keep hearing "swing chair" :)

Month to have baby shower : I'm say in second trimester --first is too soon, and last one you usually feel tired all the time :)

Best bottles : I heard Avent (I bought it too)... Avoid those with BPA in it.

Best diapers ? Well I'm going for cotton diapers, so...

Best type of crib? Just make sure it is a safe one with water based paint :)

Mattress : make sure it is firm.

Crib is a must, but the play yard might come in handy when you're at friend's or family's.

I went shopping for clothes as early as I knew... But I waited to buy the "big stuff" until I was 3 months.

I told my family and friends as soon as I knew.

They were happy and surprised, even though it was long thought and planned.

    Congrats x*x

  10. The "best" is debatable.

Baby items: swing (gave my arms a break in order to get things done around the house)

Baby shower: I had mine in my 8th month and I was full of energy

Bottles: I had Playtex Drop-Ins and Vent-Air bottles.  Buying a couple different bands helped to determine what my baby liked best.

Diapers: Pampers did NOT hold in my baby's watery poo...Huggies were the way to go for me

Clothing: whatever fits!  I was not about to spend an arm and a leg on clothes...diapers were more important.

Crib: I would get a convertible one (save u from having to buy a few different beds)

Mattress: whatever isn't stained or torn

I got the travel system and later bought a convertible carseat.  I went to too many places and I did not want to get my newborn baby out of the carseat every time I got out of the car...it was easier to snap him into the stroller and go.

I shopped for small things when I found out the s*x (had to wait til my 23rd week) and bought everything I didn't get after the baby shower, before the baby.

I told my mom and friends the day I got it confirmed by the doc (couple weeks before Christmas).  They were shocked but happy.
