Best justifications to get manager approval for a Blackberry?

My company has gone to Blackberry's but at manager's discretion. My manager is ignorant with no concept of technology and won't approve the extra few dollars a month for the Blackberry. I already have to carry a company cell phone. I've tried everything I could think of but the anti-BB sentiment is overwhelming. Meanwhile the rest of the company has entire departments converting to them.

Unless you are in a job that permits you to increase the company's revenue and profitability... i.e., you work in the areas of customer support, sales, sales support, troubleshooting, customer quality assurance, etc... then there probably is no real reason for you to have a mobile device like a Blackberry.  Most people who carry BBerries are just doing it as a status symbol.  Very few people genuinely can prove that they are generating the extra revenue and profits to offset the costs.

If the other department in your company is converting to them, maybe you're in the wrong department.  Your manager is manager for a reason... he may be smarter about the overall profitability and costs than you are.
