Best kind of speakers?

This is for our Home Entertainment Center, we have the huge kind now and I want to downsize but of course still have the great sound. What are the best kind?

There are many brands and the vary in price.  If you want to buy a whole system of speakers like 5 satelites and a subwoofer look at Jbl, harman kardon, klipsch , there are a few others. If you can go to a store and listen before you buy.  Don't let the salespeople fool you into buying bose.  You can find better sound than bose at lower prices I promise.

Need some criteria such as:

Budget - the range is rather great from $200 - $10,000+

5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 system (this is the number of speakers and a sub, ie 5.1 has  a center, 2 fronts, 2rear, and a sub)

What are your wants - do you need hdmi inputs and how many?  How loud?  

Set up - are you mounting them on the wall or do you need wireless?  

If you are an average joe (like me) and can get by with a system between $500 - $1000 then I would recommend Onkyo and Sony reciever.  Look for Infinity, polk audio, and some JBL speakers.
