Best kind of tree for eco/comercial growing?

What kind of tree has best value/speed of growth ratio?

I heard good things about red oak, Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis), but I'm opened to ideas.

I own some land in Croatia, and I wish to plant a forrest on it.

Ideally, it would be to leave some eco heritage, but also to increase the value of the land so I can use it as collateral on loans for other eco projects.

Take a look at this group, makes life a little easier.

Personally I'd plant a mixed native forest, rather than stick to one kind of tree.

  2. Good to see someone is taking the eco-friendly line. I think you need to firstly match the correct tree for the soil type in your area, and remember that its really a mistake to plant all one kind of tree in one block, or stand, because this isnt good for producing a diverse plant/animal habitat. Ultimately of course the final choice is yours. Good luck!
