I am very interested in teaching languages at the university level. I realize that I would probably have to pick a language and I am wondering what you guys think is the best choice. I have been concentrating on Spanish forever and love the language. However, I love learning languages and am fascinated by numerous ones. The languages I am considering to study are Spanish, Italian, and German. Which do you think will be in the most need in about 7 years? haha. I am taking in account for time to get my PhD, considering you have to have that to teach pretty much. Anyways, please let me know what you think! Thanks :) Oh and I know Spanish is going to be a huge language to learn in the US but I am kind of worried about native speakers getting spots instead of me. What do you think? Thanks!

  1. Latin

  2. Mandarin Chinese. China will soon rule the world, everyone will learn Chinese and you'll have a lot of work.

  3. It sounds like you should stick with Spanish, but if you are really interested in so many other languages, why not try to teach more than one? Or, depending on how many languages you are proficient in, or become proficient in, you might also consider being a linguistics professor. Whatever works best for you. :D

  4. Chinese --> Mandarin

  5. English as a Second Language, Latin, or some other ancient language. Learners of modern languages deserve to be taught only by native speakers. Of course, you could also teach linguistics or literature at the university level. But languages as such should always be taught by native speakers, except for Latin, etc., since in those cases that criterion cannot be met.
