Best lesser known city to visit in Europe?

Im not looking for answers like Paris, London, Madrid, Rome, Prague, Amsterdam.... etc. What is a great less popular city in Europe that has interesting historical sites or cultural interests? I guess im looking either for a small city or a lesser known big city.

    Hamburg,

    Reykjavík.

  4. There are a LOT of options, and it depends on your interests, what you consider "lesser known" and how small you're willing to consider. Some excellent choices would include: Bruges (Belgium), Leiden, Delft, or Groningen (Netherlands), Nurnberg (Germany), Roskilde (Denmark), Eze (France), Mantova, Padova, Perugia, and Ferrara here in Italy, Ljubljana and Maribor (Slovenia), and Dubrovnik.

    I don't think there really is any one "best" place. I've been a lot of places here in Europe and my experience is that there's something interesting to see or do just about everywhere you might go.
