Best low priced digital camera?

I was looking for a camera around 200$.

I found sonys, canon, nikon, and olympus.

I was leaning towards a canon or sony but i wanted to get everyone elses opinion.

I want something durably with at least x4 zoom. If it is over 200$, that's cool as long as it isn't too out of the price range. 8.1 MP would be a good MP to look at too.

What would you all get?

  2. Just bought a Canon A590 IS for about $125. We love it (except for slower shot-to-shot) because it has a 7.1 megapixel setting, solid construction, good feel, all kinds of features and Canon reliability.

CNET gives it very good marks:

A word of caution: Do not buy a Sony camera if you travel a lot; the lens mechanism tends to be too fragile for knocking around.

  3. Hey, lucky you, you can get alot of cameras with the money, with all of the features you mentioned. Sony cameras are quite expensive, and canon is more trusted, and, to tell you the truth sony isn't that well-reputed. But, their SLR's are another story all together.

the price: 138$ for the canon a580, a fairly new camera, don't mind its price, it's still a good camera. The customers seems to like it too, it has an average as a 4.8/5 star rating. It has a two and a half inch screen, eight megapixels, and has four times zoom.

the price : around 150$, it's a very good camera for the price. It has eight megapixels, and a four times zoom lens, which also features image stabilization, which is needed whilst zooming. You didn't mention that feature, but perhaps you should've and it's bundled in this camera.

and that's the canon a270, it has the same image stabilization, the same eight megapixels, and a different six times zoom, and it costs around 200$, so you aren't going over your budget.

Those are some great powershot cameras which you might want to consider, I've worked with canon for a while, and i don't have that much complaints. They're good cameras, and are widely used with faimlies wanting to get " great photos "

On your budget, you should really get your camera from :

  4. By all means, A Canon!  I have an A80 but will eventually upgrade. Mine is maybe 4 years old and I wished it had image stablization and a bigger LCD screen, but other than that it's a great camera.   I have an 11X zoom but it's only 4 MP. I do lots of close up work especially and has great macro.

They have an A590IS at Best Buy for $179. that I wouldn't hesitate to jump on to fill your needs.  I think Circuit city was on sale, but that was a week or 2 ago.

I have a friend who swears by Olympus and I know people like their Nikon's too.  To be honest I have only heard one person say that they didn't like their Sony, but I can't remember the reason why.
