Question:

Best method for removing paint from wood?

Latex paint, off wooden deck. I've tried the paint strippers (harsh chemicals!) but didn't do the trick. Is there a method, or way to prepare the wood so that ALL the paint will come off the wood deck? All help appreciated, thank you.

  1. You might try a heat gun and a scraper. That's the way i've had the best luck...

  2. Wood is porous, so you will need to sand the area to get all the paint off.

  3. should water proof clearly first of all used painted special and ask customer like Lowe's store and will tell you about it..check out the listed and pending different kind of water proof match and would not stick or paint fall off or method..Just look and test it..I did everything and still good for 5 yrs. never paint off or method...Trust me.

  4. A belt sander would do the trick, but would require a bit of work.  If you are going to re-paint the deck, there is no need to remove the old paint.  Scrape off teh loose stuff and lightly sand the rest and it should be ready for paint (oil based primer) and a good coat of latex.  If you want to stain the deck and preserve the wood grain, then, yes, all the old paint will need to be removed.
