  1. Canon HV30 is a great camera. The HV30 shoots HD footage on a regular MiniDv tapes by using the Mpeg-2 compresstion so you don't need those expensive HDV tapes.

    so just go with a regular MiniDv tapes.

    also stick with one brand once you use them.

    Sony has "wet" types of tapes VS. Panasonic has "dry" types of tapes.

    so if you keep interchanging those tapes, the heads become dirty.


  2. I use the plain "Sony Premium" tapes. The are a little over US$3 each in 8-packs. You do not need the special, expensive, HD miniDV tapes. Do not re-use tapes...

    I've been shooting 1080i for over 3 years and have never had a drop out.

    Once you pick a tape brand/type, stick with it for the life of the camcorder.
