  1. Any bolt action 22 made by Remington, Winchester, Savage, Kimber, Mossberg...*   Pick one.*

  2. For the price Feather Industries AT 22, but if you can afford it The Krinker Plinker Ruger 10/22 conversion.

  3. I like the Browning .22 automatic rifle and the Ruger 10/22.  Both are semi-automatic.

  4. The ruger 10/22 is a awesome cheap rifle.

  5. (Q. Best model in the 22. LR?

    (A. Best is very subjective. It would help if you gave a bit more information what you mean by best.

Best value would probably be something from Savage, like the Mk II/Stevens 300 or the model 64. Or maybe a Marlin model 60. They deliver surprisingly good accuracy for under $150.

Best accuracy from a sporting rifle might be a Kimber 82C, Sako Finnfire, or maybe a Marlin 39A, all of which have reputations for shooting extremely tight groups when competent shooters are pulling the trigger.

For best accuracy period, you're looking at a custom target rifle from someone like Anschütz who specializes in Olympic class target rifles.

Most customizable would probably be the Ruger 10/22 which has a huge aftermarket accessories list.

  6. Best is a subjective term so you're going to get a lot of opinions. I really like my Ruger 10/22. They are inexpensive, reliable, easy to clean and there are boat loads of after market accessories to really make it suit your personal style.

  7. In my not so humble and entirely prejudiced opinion, the very best .22 LR rifle on the market is the Marlin Model 39.

I've had my Golden Model 39-A since 1977.  You could not pack all the small game and varmints it has killed into a railroad boxcar.  And I've used it to embarrass guys shooting expensive European Target Rifles.  As a regular production repeating .22 rifle, they don't come better than the Marlin M-39.

BTW, the Marlin M-39 has been in continuous production, under two or three different model names, since 1893.  So apparently, I'm not the only one to think them the best of .22's.
