Just put in for my week long DAS bike test. All things being well and I pass, what bike would you recommend for a not very experianced rider? Of course I love the the R1's etc but realise it would probably not be a wise choice for me!!

  1. I am assuming your from Australia when I answer this.

You need to check with your state laws with regard to the bike you can start on. some states allow larger than 250 capacity bikes using the power to weight ratio principle.  This means you could potentially start on a 600 or a 750 as long as its not something like a CBR or R6.

That said do the time on the smaller bike man it will give you the experience you need when you step up without getting into trouble too easily.

I was lucky enough to write a letter to the relevant department asking for an exemption given I am also 6 foot tall and 98kgs and had many years of prior experience. They allowed me to purchase a VTR1000 as my first bike!!!!

How I didn't kill myself I'll never know but I really recommend the less powerful units if your a little inexperienced.

My wife got her license and got a VTR250, it was the perfect bike as it doesn't have a faring ( she dropped it twice) and it very very easy to ride.

Good luck with your riding its an awesome mode of transport.

  2. my bros sixft and he  rides a crf 450

  3. Sorry, but you must have clicked the wrong section, as this is the motorcycle RACING questions.

The best advice I can give you is you to post this question again.

You would get a better response in....

    "Cars & Transportation"> "Motorcycles"

  4. look at a kawasaki ninja 500 or 250. kawasaki's are nice bikes (in my opinion) and easy to ride. If you ride well get the 500. if not get a 250 as it is pretty forgiving if you mess up a little.
