  1. Blackdog:

The north rim of the Grand Canyon does not get the numbers of tourists as the south rim. Most people don't realize that it is in a Ponderosa pine forest.  It is really nice.  The Kaibab forest is a wonderful place to camp.  You will enjoy it.  My kids counted 80 mule deer on the side of the road on our way back to the campground from the North Rim.  They liked it , but scared me.  Thought we might have a mule deer join us in the front seat.

In the fall the Shenandoah Nat'l Park is spectacular to see the colors of the trees.  Take the Skyline Drive to Big Meadows.   Climb Baldface mountain (easy). Have dinner there and watch the lights come on in the valley.  Spectacular.   Oh, you also hafta go to the apple festival in Front Royal before going on Skyline Drive.  Lots of fun.

Then there is Haaleakala NP on Maui and Volcanoes NP on the big island.  Now, those are every bit of spectacular too.

  2. Well, in Utah there is Capital Reef National Park, Arches National Park, Canyonlands Ntnl park, Bryce Canyon, and Zion Ntnl Park. I wouldn't call any of these forest parks by ANY means, but they're verrrry nice, and not very crowded. I would specifically recommend Arches and Bryce canyon. Be careful though, the temperatures SOAR out there, but luckily you can see most of the things in your car.

Rocky Mountain/Estes National park in colorado is also very nice, and it has a TON of trees if you're looking for vegetation. This park is so large that the people are spread out, but you're still not out in the middle of nowhere.

    Good luck!!

  3. Ok it's a national park there is always going to be lots of people. I love yellowstone because it is so big you do not feel like people are walking right on top of you. good luck looking for no people
