Best off road suv for my money?

I'm on a tight budget and am looking for an suv with a v6 that can handle well off road. I'm looking to spend about $4000 what are some good suggestions

$4K is going to be tough to find a good SUV that can handle well off-road.

If you shop around, you could probably find an old mid-late 90's Jeep Cherokee for at or under that price.  However, get it inspected because some people really beat the c**p out of them, leaving you with a junk truck.

avoid Jeep
