want to go back to school, but I can't attend a classroom based college because I have a baby and can't do the child care. I was wondering if anyone knew of any online colleges that have associates degrees in elementary teaching that were not outrageous with the tuitions... I am sure I can get grants and such, but I don't want to have to take out a huge loan. I will do a loan, just not one that I know I can't handle. I have looked into the University of Phoenix. They sound good, but its $320 per credit hour.. I really need some help here before I get discouraged and not do it.. Please, some advice on schools and any grants I can get being a single mom with no income.. I can't let my son down.. I want him to be proud of his mom, and at the rate I am going, I will be a waitress forever..Thanks!

  1. Good for you!!!  Ask the local community college (CC) about child care.  CC's are by FAR the best bet in terms of education for the dollar.  And there are colleges that offer online classes so start by looking at the web sites of schools close to you.  For instance, Wayne State College, Wayne, NE offers online courses but I know not whether they will fit your field.  You are looking for classes for "non-traditional" students.  Good luck!!

  2. I do the on-line school, Penn Foster, I am not sure if they do teaching, but they might.  With Penn Foster, you don't have to take out a student loan either, they let you make payment plans to them and it only costs around 1000 a semester, which includes books.  The down fall is that they only do associate degrees and not bachelor degrees, but that would give you two more years to save to pay to get your bachelors degree
