Without a doubt, it is Chessmaster.

It has a great series of tutorials narrated by a grandmaster, and has a very strong engine.

I have played Chessmaster before and it is probably one of the best programs I have played myself. I couldn't send any messages to my opponents though and couldn't have any conversations with them. I don't remember if it was with Chessmaster or not but I didn't see above 1700 ratings.
