  1. To carry on from what Demo  was saying.

    You need a

    Anti Virus

    Anti Spy ware

    Anti Rook Kit

    Firewall

For a Anti Virus and Anti Spyware I would go for AVG 8.0 (www.grisoft.com)

For a free Firewall I would go for Zone Alarm (www.zonealarm.co.uk)

But if you decided to pay for one instead I would definitely go for Kaspersky Secuirty Suite ($39.95) (www.kaspersky.co.uk)

  2. Avast. (http://www.avast.com/ )

Updates automatically, offers boot-time scanning and removing of viruses, and is free.

AVG is NOT free (if you want full functionality). Several parts of AVG are activated ONLY after you get the full version.

Also, get copies of good spyware removers, like AdAware and Spybot S&D:

    http://www.lavasoft.de/

    http://www.safer-networking.org/

Keep them up to date, run full system scans at least once a week...

  3. I have  only 6 years familiarity  with net world. I have been using windows xp all these years. I used  free anti-virus softwares like AVG,Norton,Kasparesky,McAfee,etc.,etc., but I  could not stop system breakdowns during the first 5 years.    Since 5-5-07 I have been  using Avast anti-virus which has built-in features like auto updation of  its virus data- base and also its program  everyday. For the last one year I have not experienced even single system breakdown .I am still confident that my system  can cope up with any kind of virus outbreaks in the years to come.Besides Avast, I have been using 'CC cleaner' and 'Advanced Windows care V2 personal' for optimal protection of my system.I hope my experience will be of some help to you.(K.Gandhi,Kurnool)

  4. You'd need a number of different security systems to do this.

    You'd need an: Anti-Spyware

    You'd need an: Anti-Virus

    You'd need an: Anti-*mental blank*

A good few free ones are the NOD32, AVG home free edition, avast free and metacafe trail

  5. AVG (http://free.avg.com/) is a very good comprehensive program, so is Threatfire (http://www.threatfire.com/), and Spybot S&D (http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html) is a good addition, all three have extra functionality that is very useful, and are free.

I would also add Secunia PSI (http://secunia.com/software_inspector/) because it ensures you upgrade all software on time to eliminate security threats.

Also, you should read this, it is very educational about free security utilities: http://content.zdnet.com/2346-12691_22-9...

  6. I've been using Avast Free Home Edition for a few years and I've been happy with it.

  7. NOD32 PREMUIM PROTECTION

  8. There isn't a free one that does all that. That's why you have to buy one, would any1 bother to pay $80/yr for c**p if they could get something better for free? AVG and Avast are c**p but are better than nothing. I know if tried them both. NOD32 or Kapersky are the best.

  9. Free spyware programs to download are Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware, Ad-Aware 2007 and AVG. Most popular free antivirus programs are AVG Anti-Virus, Avira AntiVir , Avast  etc. Check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.

  10. Bitdefender 2009 internet security
