If my 9 year old sister prooves that she is responsible...I was thinking of getting her a pet for Christmas. I just got a parakeet for my birthday and she wants a pet too. We have 2 fish that we share and a dog. I take complete care of all the pets. Whats a good way for her to proove shes responsible???? Also...what pet? Thats the major question! My mom wont allow rodents and I need something thats fairly cheap. My parents will pay for the pet after it and the supplies are bought.

She wants a turtle very bad. But... we only have a 10 gallon tank for the turtle and i'm not sure if theres a turtle small enough. I've never had a reptile or amphibian, but I have been researching turtles so I could teach my sister proper care for it. We also have an extra bird cage and rodent cage. Ideas?

  1. A rabbit! Theyre very fun and playful pets, but only if you really think she's responsible enough to change its hay every day clean out its droppings and feed it. Rabbits arent rodents you know! They are very clean pets and love attention. I would say if you got one to get one in the spring time. September is when everyone breeds them  and you will easily beable to get one for free! You can also get hutches from trademe for a good price.

  2. What pet animal should you get for your little sister?

Well, to get her to prove how much she wants a pet you could ask her some questions, like ... What does she compare how much she wants to get a pet? ...  What words does she say how much she wants a pet?

A way to find a pet right for her is that you could ask her what else she wants exept for a turtle?

My answer is not much but i hope it helps you :D

  3. Well you can get tiny little turtles. Maybe she would be aloud a guinea pig? I know you said no rodents but they aren't like mice/hamsters/rats. Other then that all I can think of is another bird.

A way to see if she is responsible enough is to make her care for the dog by herself for two weeks. Make sure she is walking and feeding the dog right and if she can do it then you know she is responsible.

There is always a chance she will get bored of the new pet so since you are buying it for her make sure you are prepared to look after it and give it love and attention if she does.

  4. A cat...little kids adore them and they hardly need any taking care of as they are one of the most independent pets around (unlike dogs). In fact, if you take a three day vacation and leave enough food around, it can take care of itself in those three days. Potty training is minimal and it won't "go" on the carpet once it learns. Plus, although independent, cats generally love their owners and cuddle up to them; your sister will love that. So I'd say a cat. They aren't too expensive either.

  5. i say get a hamster or hermit crab they are really easy to care for i had some my self

  7. bird. rabbit

  8. Parakeet.

  9. I think you should get her either a chinchilla or a ferret.  They're both really easy to take care of.  All you need to do is buy the food, water, litter a few toys a need a bed and since you already have a cage your good to go.  (You can get the supplies and a chinchilla at a Petco or PetSmart).  Depending on where you live, you might not be able to get a ferret.  I know that they are illegal in california.  If you do live in California usually you can get a ferret at craigslist.com.  And don't worry, many people in California have ferrets.
