Best place for a student to live in ireland?

I want to move to Ireland and work for a summer but I don't know where to start. I'm 20 and from the US.. what are some good places (and affordable places) to live? what do people my age do?

The best way for you to go is look for a study abroad program then you can work for at least 20 hours a week.  The study abroad program will give you very clear info.   You can also get in touch with quest college in tullamore its a castle but a school too that will let you stay as a student for doing volunteer work around the castle.  You can stay in Ireland up to six months at a time through permission of the Gardai on your passport but you cannot look for work.

Any of the cities here are great, but if you are looking for affordable accomodation then Dublin and Galway will be the most expensive.  It will be very easy to get summer work here in any city or town.  Maybe if you want to experience the real Ireland you could think about bar work in a coastal town.  Dingle, Youghal, Kilkee, Cobh, Clifden, etc etc. are all idyllic, sea-side towns with grat atmosphere & thriving tourist destinations.  Accomodation in guest houses would work out good for a weekly basis & each of these towns is not far from a big city.  

As for what people your age can do, as you probably know, we're a nation of alcohol lovers, so prepare yourself, lol.

Galway has a great university therefore a real young community and its a real party city... Eyre Square is the centre of all the social life there... And Galway is of course much cheaper for accomodation and most everyday things than Dublin

If i were you i would use a search engine to find a letting agency in the Galway area and register with them it cost something nominal like twenty euro and they will basically try match you to the perfect accomodation for your budget...

Cork City - good universities, decent accommodation at reasonable prices, great craic. The best city in Ireland!

You'll need a work permit, unless you want to risk being deported as an illegal immigrant.

You'd need a work visa, which you can only get through BUNAC... and right now they are not issuing any as the gov is looking over the criteria for acceptance. You have to have been a student full time the semester before you apply, too.

If they ever sort it out--- go to Cork, hands down.
